Mock Criminal Trial | British Law Centre

Student Criminal Law Mock Trial

 Wednesday 19th December 2018 – 18.30-20.00 (Lipowa 4, sala 3.6 – “Sala Sądowa”)

The Trial

John Plumb is a barrister specialising in crime and personal injury work. He is charged with stealing a table phone from an electrical goods shop, on the basis that he put the phone inside his suit jacket pocket and left the store without paying for it. It is alleged by the prosecution that he intended to keep it. He maintains that he forgot he put it there and that he never intended to steal.

The Concept

BLC first-year students have been preparing this case for both the prosecution and defence since the beginning of the academic year, applying the Hempel method of advocacy training. On the day of the trial, several BLC students will argue the case for the prosecution and for the defence in a mock Crown Court trial, using English criminal rules of procedure before a Crown Court judge and a jury. We invite anyone with an interest in comparative procedural rules to come and witness this mock trial. We also invite you to participate as a member of the jury who will decide the fate of John Plumb.

Stay up to date

The core mission of the BLC is to help students achieve their potential and future lawyers. Follow us on facebook to keep up todate on our activities.

Legal Skills

We want to widen the possibilities of law students with regards to legal skills. We teach students the essential skills that we think lawyers will need, using the English legal system as the base with which we teach.

Outreach

BLC students are learning the skills, but we want as many students as possible to benefit from our teaching techniques. That’s why we invite you to volunteer as a jury member!!
