On Friday 16 September 2016 the British Law Centre had the esteemed pleasure to host Iain Morley QC for the first major event of the 2016-2017 BLC academic year. The lecture, which took place before a huge crowd in the Aula of the Old Library of the University of Warsaw, was titled ‘The Art of Advocacy’, an allusion to Iain Morley QC’s bestselling advocacy skills manual ‘The Devil’s Advocate: How to be Seriously Good in Court’, and Iain’s vast experience providing advocacy training all over the world to lawyers and judges in civil law as well as common law jurisdictions.

During the lecture, which was followed up by a questions and answers session, Iain touched upon his experiences of introducing advocacy training in England and Wales during the early 1990s, with the help of Professor George Hampel QC, and provided numerous anecdotes and stories about his work as a criminal barrister in England and Wales, as court-appointed defence counsel for Slobodan Milosevic at the ICTY and as a prosecutor at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda.
